Audio matice jsou sofistikované přístroje umožňující úpravy a korekce zvukových signálů, jejich slučování / smíchání a distribuci / směrování do výstupů pro další (výkonové) zesílení.
Úpravy je obvykle možno provádět on-line i přes vzdálený přístup (IP, ethernet) a řídit parametry a funkce řídícími systémy jako např. AMX, CUE, Crestron.
Místní ovládání je obvykle přes dotykové panely.
DSP - digitální signálové procesory mohou být součástí audio matic, mixážních pultů a jednotek nebo jsou to samostatné jednotky. Zajišťují úpravy zvuku (např. ekvalizaci, frekvenční filtraci, rozdělení zvuku do frekvenčních pásem, aplitudovou kompresi, úpravu doby dozvuku).
